EDITRICE NORD
Casa Editrice Nord started its activity in 1970 with the aim of bringing Italian readers closer to science fiction and fantasy, two literary genres that at the time were not widely present in Italian bookshops. Over the years, the publisher's catalogue became a reference point in Italy for its vastness and completeness, ranging from classic novels to more innovative works and presenting the most significant writers in the fiction panorama.
The acquisition by Gruppo Longanesi in April 2002 allowed Nord to implement a process of thorough change , that involved every aspect of the publishing house: from the purely publishing aspect, with a widening of interests and objectives, to that of management, promotion and marketing.
The publishing project of the "new" Casa Editrice Nord reflects one of the main and most interesting characteristics of contemporary literature, namely a gradual shading in the characterisation of genres that has given rise to a happy, and often surprising, meeting of narrative forms, such as combining adventure stories with thrillers, horror with action, and fantasy with real stories... It therefore moves on the path of experimentation, seeking writers in whose works that "union" is particularly successful and backed by success with readers and critics in their own country, such as The Swarm and The devil in the cathedral by Frank Schätzing (one of the most read authors in Europe); Map of bones and Black order by James Rollins, one of the brightest and most original writer of adventure stories; The third secret and The Templar legacy by Steve Berry, a master of historical thrillers; the successful series on vampires starring Anita Blake by Laurell K. Hamilton; The Dwarves by Markus Heitz, a bestselling saga in Tolkien's style and the mystery novels of the Parisian bookseller&detective Victor Legris, skilfully featured by Claude Izner.
In october 2005, following an agreement between the Mauri and Spagnol families, a new holding company named Gruppo editoriale Mauri Spagnol (GeMS) was founded and Casa Editrice Nord became part of it. The shareholders of GeMS are Messaggerie Italiane, the Spagnol family and Andrea Micheli. Stefano Mauri and Luigi Spagnol have been appointed respectively President and CEO, and CEO of the company.
